New livery for Santa in Oban this Saturday

There will be something a little bit different about Santa when he visits the Palace Hotel in Oban on Saturday – 7th December.

This Santa know he has to operate in a world where the sea matters – so along with his traditional red and white suit, he will be sporting a pair of yellow RNLI wellies to show his support for Oban Lifeboat.

We cannot confirm whether or not his reindeer will  be similarly shod but we have it on good authority that their bells are jingling in support.

Oban RNLI Fundraising Group has invited the main man to join Stormy Stan, the lifeboat man, at their festive fun day – which will be hosted at the hotel, courtesy of the Donn family, from 11am – 4pm.

Children will have the chance to win extra cash for Christmas by entering a fancy dress competition, with £50 to be given to the winner, courtesy of Oban Express.

Judging will be at 2pm and all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Traditional teas, coffees, cakes, mince pies and sandwiches will be on offer, along with fun competitions and other attractions including a tombola, children’s lucky dip, and a homebaking stall.

Sprigs of holly, from the lifeboat station’s tree, will also be on sale. And art lovers will be able to place sealed bids for an original oil painting of Oban’s North Pier which has been donated by professional artist Paul Taggart.

Moira Kerr, fundraising group secretary, says: ‘Please come along, have fun, and get into the Christmas spirit while helping us raise money to save lives at sea.’

Anyone who wants to view the painting in advance can do so tomorrow, Friday 6th December, from 2pm-4pm
at the Oban Lifeboat Station at Port Ban, with today’s storm winds long gone.
